The creator of the brand FreiaDesign is Frida “ia” Koskimies. The name FreiaDesign is a combination of the names Frida, my grandmother’s name Eira and my nickname ia. The name is also linked to Norse mythology - Freyja, the goddess of love and beauty.

I create unique textile jewelry and accessories from recycled materials. I strive to use recycled materials as much as possible. When I am out thrift shopping and notice an interesting piece of material – no matter if it is a piece of clothing, a scarf or a piece of cloth - it will become something new in my hands! I also use left over pieces of fabric that my seamstress friend cannot make use of. The materials are not directly recycled, but I save the material from ending up in the bin. The buttons I have no use for, I donate to the project Buttons for Africa.

The fabric gets a new life through freehand machine embroidery and they become earrings, bracelets and necklaces. Scarves get new patterns. My style is to create three-dimensional patterns with different layers.

Nature - especially the forest - is important to me. The forest has always been a place for me where I can relax and look at the world through the eyes of a child. The forest is a sacred place where I find peace and feel that time has stopped. There is no need to know what is going on in the outside world or to be reachable. The Forest Spirit and me – that is all there is.

I like to use a macro lens for photography. My photos are often close-ups of natural objects, where you see the tiniest details, and I use these photos in textiles. I print the images directly onto the fabric and process further with freehand machine embroidery.

I also make products according to the customer’s specification. For instance, if you have a photo you would like to use in a piece of jewelry or on a decorative cushion, do not hesitate to contact me.
